Not your typical family photos

As a mum of teens, I know how hard it can be to get them in front of the camera. You want to celebrate their youth, their uniqueness, their strength - but they don't want a bar of it.

This is where my REAL portrait sessions come in.

No fake smiles. No dress code. No having to hold your sister's hand. These short and sweet sessions are for the ones who think* they hate having their photos taken.

(I say 'think' - but you watch them. They'll walk out looking and feeling 10 feet tall!)

Individual portraits, designed for tweens and teens, but suitable for anyone 8 - 80 years old. Perfect for celebrating birthdays, milestones, new hair cuts, starting or ending school or university, or just for the sake of it.

Next sessions on Sunday 20th October 2024. Bookings open on Monday 16th Sept 2024 at 7pm.

FAQ's

How much do Real Portrait sessions cost?

The introductory price for the session plus 3 edited high resolution digital photos is $99.

The current age limit for Real Portraits is 8 years and above - there's no upper age limit.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are offered in a studio location, usually in south Christchurch.

When bookings are open, the address will be on the booking page.

What do I get with a Real Portrait Session?

The booking covers a professional photoshoot for up to 15 mins in a studio environment for 1 person, and your favourite 3 photos edited in black and white, delivered by digital download. There is the option to purchase more digital images, prints or framed wall art. All prints and wall art come with the matching digital file.

When and how do I get the photos?

Within 2 - 3 weeks you'll receive a link to an online gallery where you can choose your favourite photos and add on any extras. Once payment has been made, you'll be able to download your black and white, edited digital photos in both high and low resolution. If you've ordered prints, I'll be in contact once they are ready for collection from my studio in Somerfield.

What should my kids wear and can they bring anything?

Anything they want!
Hoodies, trainers, caps, sunnies, prom dresses, fancy dress, jeans, jandals, soccer kits, etc. As long as it's clean and crease free (and they feel good in it), it's good with me.

If they want to they can bring guitars, skateboards, teddys, roller skates, violins, footballs - anything that reflects who they are.

My kid is nervous - do you give them guidance?

Yes! I will show them exactly what to do - then they make it their own. If they feel silly in a pose - they don't do it.
I usually find that kids (and adults) are most comfortable when they don't have an audience, so it's just me and them in the room. Parents can sit in the waiting area (unless they want you there for support, in which case that's fine too).

Do you do sibling photos?

Not at this stage. The point of these photos is to give your kid the space to be themselves, so they can relax and be the 'real' them.

Never, say never though! I may introduce them, if there's enough demand, but they would still be in keeping with Real Portraits vibe.

Are Real Portraits just for kids?

No! They are great for anyone wanting a few shots for social media, headshots, or to celebrate a special occassion or milestone.
Because they are quick, they are not really designed for small children that may take extra time to 'warm up'. The current lower age limit is 8 years old. There is no upper age limit.
